Emailnya sejak tepat 2 minggu lalu. Penggalan emailnya yang paling awal seperti ini :
Dear Sylvia,
This email will give you thoughts but also reassurance.
The case is that when you will start at Leiden University, I have officially changed my position and no longer will be working at Leiden University. This might come as a shock to you, but things have been changing quite rapidly for me in the past months. It is also important for you to know that I am not leaving because of a low scientific quality at Leiden University or a bad atmosphere at the Molecular Microbiology department. In contrast, both are at a very high quality level. The main reason for my departure from Leiden University is that I got a position offered at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. Since my wife is originating from Switzerland, we could not leave that chance just go.
Coming to you and what this means for you is the following. You are still accepted at Leiden University for your PhD, which was already confirmed by prof. Van den Hondel, the leader of the Molecular Microbiology department. The second staff member in the Molecular Microbiology department is dr. Arthur Ram, he is an assistant professor in molecular microbiology and a very high quality scientist. I have talked with dr. Ram and prof. Van den Hondel about you in detail and they have all your documents which we communicated during the past months. Both of them are very impressed with your CV and are very willing to take over supervision for your PhD at Leiden University. Both have a solid background in microbial biotechnology.
Interestingly, prof. Van den Hondel has recently founded a company that targets for the discovery of new antimicrobials, which is exactly the scope of what we have been discussing about in your working plan. Of course dr. Ram and prof. Van den Hondel will have new plans which will fit better to their own research projects, but they will discuss that with you.
Dr. A. Ram and prof. van den Hondel will give you soon a personal confirmation of the above by email and I am absolutely convinced that your future is in good hands. Please let me know your reaction and any questions,
Best wishes,
Guido
CC: Dr. Arthur Ram and prof.
Gini :
Dear Sylvia,
I just want to send you a short e-mail following up on the previous e-mail of Guido as I can imagine that Guido move to Switzerland may worry you. This mail is to further confirm that you are still very much welcome to the Leiden group to do your PhD. Guido has given us your CV and research proposal and it is a very interesting and challenging proposal.
As Guido mentioned, we are very much interested in the discovery of new antimicrobial compounds. As you now, Guido was leading the bacterial part of the microbiology group, mainly working with bacteria and bacterial biofilms. The other part of the molecular microbiology group is studying fungi, and an important interest of the group is to discover new antifungal compounds. What I hope is that you can also test your antimicrobial compounds aginst fungi as this will be close to our expertise as well. Expertise with biofilms also still exist in the group, Sandra de Weert and Ellen Lagendijk, to members of Guido's group, are still working in the group and collaboaration Guido has with the LUMC will be continued, so there is a lot to do with your extracts.
I'm looking forward to your stay, here in the Netherlands. Please inform me as soon as possible if I can help you to arrange things for your stay here in Leiden. Could you give an indication of when you are planning to come to Leiden.
Kind regards, also on behalf of prof. Cees van den Hondel,
Arthur Ram
Shocked.. tertegun.. you name it.
Beliau benar-benar membimbing & mengarahkan.. & I'm gonna miss all his guidances, attentions and assistances!
Aku sama sekali ga cemas akan nasibku atau researchku kedepan karena Prof. Cees tetap ada & ada Dr. Ram sebagai ganti Dr. Guido, but still I feel down.. Mungkin pada akhirnya aku bakalan nangis kehilangan beliau, tapi itu lebih bagus, paling ga emosiku akhirnya keluar & aku ga ngerasa "blank" kaya sekarang..
Aku ngerasa kebas...
